THE JAKE BRIEN MEMORIAL
FUND
|
Named
in memory of a wonderful dog
who is no longer with us,
this fund was established in
order to offer life-saving
stabilization to those pets
whose owners are unknown.
All funds will
directly benefit the
animals and the care
they so desperately
need. Depending on their
condition, the Jake
Brien Memorial Fund will
offer the administration
of intravenous fluids,
pain medications and
oxygen in the hopes of
stabilizing the pet
until his or her owner
can be found OR until
they can be transferred
to a local humane
organization that will
place them for adoption.
Every cent helps! We
thank everyone who so
graciously donates to
these animals in need.
They deserve and greatly
appreciate your
generosity!

Brien Memorial Fund Recipients

Meet
the first
recipient of
the
Jake Brien
Memorial
Fund!
This adorable kitten was brought to WVEC after being injured at an apartment building where she was a stray. Allegedly, she had been kicked, causing a break to her left tibia. With proper splinting for 4-6 weeks, it is expected that she will have a full recovery with little to no lasting effects.
She was
vaccinated
and spayed
upon arrival
and has
found a
loving home.

Introducing…
our second
recipient,
Niya!
Niya was
brought to
WVEC in need
of immediate
emergency
surgery
after
developing
complications
from a
previous
surgical
procedure
which
endangered
her life.
She
continues to
successfully
recover
and lives a
happy life!

The Jake
Brien Fund
strikes
again!
These
dogs were
brought to
our hospital
with
extensive
medical
needs. They
both
received the
necessary
treatments
and
recovered
well.
They are
males, who
were
neutered
during their
stay. They
are both
wonderful
dogs who
have since
found loving
homes to
call their
own. We
thank
everyone who
has donated
to the Jake
Fund in
order to
assist in
their
treatment
and
recovery!

Introducing… Indy!
Arrived 7/3/2010 (hence the name – Independence!)
This little guy was brought to our facility in need of treatments after a traumatic injury to his head caused him to need medical attention. Luckily enough for him, he recovered very quickly and has been adopted into a loving home!

This sad looking face is Phantom…
Brought to us by a Good Samaritan, this guy had a very obvious facial wound in need of some serious medical attention. After administering pain medication and antibiotics, it was concluded that this injury is either some sort of abrasion (maybe road rash or from an accident involving his face scraping on cement) or it could be some sort of chemical burn (something that dripped onto his face, just above his eye then dripped downward). The GREAT news is that this soft-tissue injury is his only issue – he is otherwise healthy and happy!
Phantom is currently in foster care with a staff member until his wound is fully healed, at which time he will be moving promptly into his new home (that’s right, he’s already been adopted!).

This is “Elle” (pronounced L. E.)
This pretty girl came to us in July with an injury to her right eye. After careful examination while under sedation the doctor found that the eye had actually been punctured and was extremely infected. WVEC staff moved forward in removing her eye and she recovered well.
She is a sweet girl who gets along great with all other animals and people. She has already been adopted!

In Memory of Leslie M. Van Hoose
●
As a
beloved wife and hockey-mom,
Leslie was also a huge animal
advocate who specifically loved
cats, dogs and horses. Anyone
who had the pleasure of knowing
her could attest that she would
do anything it would take to
care for any animal in need;
even when that meant adopting an
adult Springer Spaniel in need
of a hospice home to live the
remaining few months of his life
after being diagnosed with
bladder cancer. He only lived 3
months, but Leslie and her
family were able to give him the
best three months of his life,
filled with fun and lots of
love. This is only one example
of the kind of person this woman
was. Leslie was the very first
person to contribute to the Jake
Brien Memorial Fund so her
family felt it would be perfect
to ask that donations be made in
her honor to continue her legacy
and love for animals in need.
WVEC, as well as Leslie’s
family, would like to say a very
sincere THANK YOU to all who
have donated to this fund in her
name. She will not be forgotten.
To make
a contribution to the Jake Brien
Memorial Fund, please make checks payable to WVEC and mail
