Dr. Jonna Fulton, DVM
Our founding member, Dr. Jonna Fulton has over
ten years of experience in the veterinary field,
including general practice, emergency medicine
and surgery. After receiving her veterinary
degree at LSU, she completed an advanced
training small animal medical and surgical
internship at VA-MD Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine. She then worked for one
year at a small animal emergency hospital in
Roanoke, VA, before relocation to New Hampshire.
She has special interests in emergency soft
tissue surgery and ultrasonography.
As a resident of
Laconia, Dr. Fulton recognized the need for an
after- hours emergency center for the pets in
the Lakes Region. She is committed to providing
compassionate medical and surgical treatment to
all of her patients.
Dr. Fulton enjoys scuba
diving, sports and outdoor activities with her
husband, Scott, and her two Labradors, Emma and
Fenway.

Dr. Ginger Smith, DVM
Dr. Ginger Smith is a 2000 graduate from Auburn
University, Alabama. After working a little over
a year in general practice in Arizona, she went
on to complete two emergency medicine
internships in private practices: one in Nevada
and other in North Carolina. Since then, Dr
Smith has focused on emergency medicine as her
primary interest.
Originally from the area, she migrated back to
New Hampshire and is currently residing in the
small but quintessentially New England town of
Eaton, NH.
Apart from ER medicine, Dr. Smith’s passions are
snowboarding, backpacking, and especially
hiking. In November 2006, she completed the 48
peaks which comprise the Appalachian Mountain
Club’s 4,000 footer list. Her dream is to
through-hike the 2100+ miles of the Appalachian
Trail. She is trying to expand her repertoire to
telemark skiing and white water kayaking.
Neither of her two cats (Nada and Amanita), or
her 17 yr old pet corn snake (Edgar), show any
interest in participating in the outdoor
activities with her, but they are still a very
large part of her life.

Dr. Kathryn Guest, DVM
Dr. Katie Guest has over 10 years experience
working in the veterinary field. She began work
as a veterinary technician in Maryland for two
years, before attending veterinary school. Dr.
Guest earned her veterinary degree in 1999 from
VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in
Blacksburg, Virginia. Upon graduation from
veterinary school, where she met her husband who
is also a veterinarian, Dr. Guest moved to the
lakes region to pursue her career and love for
the outdoors. She has been working in the lakes
region for the past nine years tending to all
creatures great and small, ranging from horses
and goats to cats and dogs. Her greatest area of
interest lies in the field of veterinary surgery
but she also enjoys pain management and
emergency medicine, which lead her to join the
WVEC staff.
When not working, Dr.
Guest stays very busy trying to keep up with her
four children; Connor, Ella and twin daughters
Caroline and Madelyn as well as trying to spend
time with her husband, Dr. John Guest (also a
local veterinarian). The family lives in Gilford
with their golden retriever, Spenser, and three
cats; Otis, Sitka and Little One. When time
allows, Dr. Guest loves to spend her free time
skiing, hiking, running and swimming as well as
volunteering in the Gilford community and school
where her children are enrolled.

Joshua VanHoose – CVT, Head Veterinary Technician
Josh moved
to New Hampshire in January of 2001 from
Lambertville, New Jersey. He graduated from
Notre Dame High School in 1997 and attended the
University of New Hampshire in Durham from
1999-2001. Josh started work as a veterinary
technician at Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital
in December 2001 where he worked alongside Dr.
Fulton for 3 years. During his time at LRVH he
gained valuable knowledge in the veterinary
field working with and learning not only under
Dr. Fulton, but also with Dr. John Guest, Dr.
Katie Guest and Dr. Julie Keene. In June 2005,
Josh accepted a technician position at the Myhre
Equine Clinic in Rochester. There, he gained
experience in equine surgery and anesthesia,
nuclear scintigraphy and treating patients who
have received Iodine 131 (a recommended
treatment for cats with hyperthyroidism). Josh
passed the National Veterinary Technician
Certification Examination in June of 2008. Josh
currently resides in Laconia with his wife,
Beth, their two dogs Daytona and Murdock, and

Beth VanHoose – Veterinary Technician
Beth is a life-long resident of the Lakes
Region, born and raised in Meredith. She began
working with animals at the New Hampshire Humane
Society at the age of 12. Starting as a
volunteer, she then worked her way up from
part-time to full-time after she took classes
for Applied Animal Science at the University of
New Hampshire, Thompson School of Applied
Science in Durham. At the shelter, she was in
charge of the canine department for some time
then moved to Shelter Manager. After almost 14
years of service, Beth moved into the veterinary
field working as a receptionist for Lakes Region
Veterinary Hospital and Laconia Animal Hospital.
She also owns a small business called
Leader of the Pack Canine Training
which offers basic canine obedience classes as
time and space allows. When the opportunity
arose to join Dr. Fulton in emergency veterinary
medicine, Beth decided it was a great chance for
her to learn more. Beth's husband, Josh, also
works for Winnipesaukee Veterinary Emergency
Center. They currently reside in Laconia with
their houseful of pets!

Angela LaFave – Certified Veterinary Technician
Angela has had a love for animals from the
instant she was walking and talking. She spent
her childhood working at a horse farm after
school to work off her riding lessons and when
she was old enough, started volunteering at
Russell Animal Hospital to begin working toward
her dream of being a veterinarian. Like many
things in life, that dream changed when she
attended the University of New Hampshire in
Durham and majored in Equine Management. During
her college career she was an avid eventer and
went on to manage several horse farms in the
seacoast area after graduation. Angela returned
to Russell Animal Hospital and received her
certification at the New Hampshire Community
Technical College in Stratham. In her search for
more challenges she spent time working in the
ICU at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral
Hospital and eventually moved to Florida where
she worked at Lion Country Safari. It was in
Florida that she was introduced to Equine
Massage Therapy and realized that she could
blend her passions for horses and the medical
field into one career. Angela has been an Equine
Massage Therapist for 4 ½ years and is currently
attending Vital Kneads Human Massage Therapy
School. Since coming to WVEC, getting to know
the staff and becoming familiar with cutting
edge diagnostics she says, “I can’t even call
this work, but my passion.”

Honey – House Cat / Blood Donor
After coming very close to moving from his home
to a cage in an animal shelter, Honey joined the
WVEC team. In the fall of 2007, after learning
that he would have the chance to save the lives
of many felines in need, he jumped at the chance
to accept the challenge. Though the staff is
unsure of Honeys’ past, they have learned that
he is a very loving and healthy 17 pounder!
Honey enjoys sleeping on top of the cabinet in
the employee lounge, stealing Dr. Fulton’s
chair, and running throughout the entire
hospital like a maniac at 3am! He is also a very
concerned bystander when patients are
hospitalized overnight – he makes sure the
technicians do a good job caring for them all.
Honey has settled into his new life perfectly!
We hope that he is with us for many years to
come!

Angi Carlo – Veterinary Technician
Angi began her career in
veterinary technology in 2001 when she entered a
high school program to attend the local
veterinary hospital for job shadowing. Her
strong interest in the field and work ethic got
her a job working in the kennel after high
school. Soon after, she was trained on-site in
the technical skills needed to assist the
veterinarians. She worked her way up the ladder
to becoming a fully skilled veterinary
technician and worked as such with that
veterinary practice for 5 years. After a brief
summer break in 2007, Angi decided she wanted to
try something new – Emergency Veterinary Care!
She now works for WVEC as well as another 24
hour emergency center. She is enjoying every day
expanding her skills in the emergency field. On
her time off, Angi enjoys spending time with her
fiancé, Stefano, and their 2 dogs, Lucy and
Sofie. They also have a bearded dragon named
Duchess. They enjoy hiking, kayaking and
visiting family and friends!
